My Cat and The Garden of Eden

TweetClick to share now They say we can learn from children but I would like to extend that idea to include cats.  In fact we can learn from all of creation; the lessons await but our attention and attitude often hinder us from seeing a truth that is clearly demonstrated before us.   One of my cats recently got quite sick after sneaking outside and rummaging around the neighborhood.  This particular cat is named Pork Chop (my son named him).  The day after “Pork Chop’s Big Adventure,” he sat sullenly in the corner of the house and moaned as if he was at death’s doorstep.  I was not sure what was wrong and called a Vet who said it could be a urinary tract infection.  That was of great concern as it could be fatal if it went untreated.  I resigned myself to delivering Pork Chop to the Vet’s office on the following day.   After getting up and making preparations to transport Pork Chop, I was surprised to see that he no longer appeared to be in pain and was back to his old, mischievous cat self.  He was tearing around the house and showed no signs of the previous days wows.  After another call to the Vet we concluded that Pork Chop had probably eaten or chewed upon something during his neighborhood jaunt that had caused the day of sickness.  Whatever it was now seemed to have worked its way through his system and we concluded that no further action was necessary unless the symptoms returned.   Two days later the Pork Chop snuck out again and...

Job Rejection Letter From Heaven

TweetClick to share now The media is full of eyebrow raising commentary on what is generically labeled as “Christian” behavior and beliefs.  We see it on the news and now it is daily fodder in the wild and wooly world of cyber journalism known as Facebook.  Much of the material presented points to fanatical and sometimes outrageous behavior demonstrated by individuals who claim to be Christians.  At a core level there is confusion as to what the term Christian even means.  Those who claim to be Christians are often the only thing that skeptics see and as a result they are never introduced to the actual teachings of Christ and the inspired words of God which can only be found in Scripture.   Contrary to popular rumor, Christians are not called to point fingers, judge and pronounce sentence upon those who they find to be deficient or contradictory in their beliefs and behaviors.  True Christians are called to follow Christ.   Just this week the news was filled with stories about a Baptist Pastor in North Carolina who told his congregation that Gays and Lesbians should be confined with electrified cages in isolated areas and simply given food like prisoners until they died out.  The story sparked outrage and indeed it should.  A man standing in the pulpit of a facility that is supposed to be a sanctuary for worship of God delivered a message which is not only contrary to Scripture but verges on illegality as it encouraged conspiracy to do things which are clearly illegal and harmful.   The story put the secular world in an uproar...

One Last Thing…

TweetClick to share now Imagine what it would be like to have been one of the apostles at the Last Supper.  Kind of like being invited to an elite catered dinner in a small conference room to hear the CEO make a presentation.  You’d probably feel a bit honored and might even see yourself as being pretty significant for having been invited.  Rumors were going around that some pretty cutting edge secrets are going to be revealed at the dinner meeting.  There’s an air of excitement in the room.  Peter is speaking forcefully and his voice can be heard above the crowd as usual and Judas is hovering over the Hors d’œuvre tray stuffing a few in his camel skin fanny pack when he thinks nobody is looking. During the course of the evening the group enjoys a Passover meal.  The disciples were probably jockeying for position – trying to see who could get close to Jesus – you know how organizational politics tend to work.  As Jesus ate He already knew that he was in the process of being betrayed by one of those in attendance.  He also knew that one of his most enthusiastic disciples would completely deny any allegiance to Him in just a few hours.   Can you imagine the intensity of the emotions that someone in that position would feel?   What kind of feelings would you have if you were at that dinner table knowing that one of your “friends” in attendance was going to sell you out to men that would torture and execute you in a gruesome way and another  would wash...
